  • Virginia Joins Federal E-Stamp Program for Migratory Bird Hunting
Virginia has been chosen to participate in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Federal E-Stamp program for migratory bird hunting. Hunters can buy the Federal E-Stamp online or from license agents statewide. The price of the Federal E-stamp is $17, and it is valid for 45 days immediately following purchase. The physical stamp will be delivered to the customer by US Mail. Please verify your mailing address when purchasing the Federal E-Stamp.
Waterfowl hunters 16 and older are required to purchase the Federal Duck Stamp in order to hunt waterfowl. The Federal Duck Stamp also serves as an entrance pass for national wildlife refuges where admission is charged.
  • New Special Fox Hunting License
DGIF has established a special license for hunting foxes on horseback with hounds but without firearms. The license may be purchased in lieu of a basic hunting license but is not required in addition to a basic hunting license. The Special Fox Hunting license does not require the licensee to complete a hunter education program. The resident price is $23, and the non-resident price is $111.
  • Special Archery License Combining Bow and Arrow or Crossbow
Effective July 1, a single combined archery license is required for hunting with a bow and arrow or crossbow during special archery seasons. Previously separate licenses were required for bow and arrow and crossbow. The combined archery license is required in addition to licenses required to hunt small and big game. The combined archery license price is $18 for residents and $31 for non-residents. The price of the Sportsman's Hunting and Fishing license, which previously included separate licenses for bow and arrow and crossbow, has been reduced to $123 to reflect the combined archery license.
  • Nonriparian Stationary Waterfowl Blind Licenses Available
The nonriparian license sales period for a stationary waterfowl blind previously licensed during the year before is July 1 through August 15. As this session is limited to last year's licensed locations, the previous year's license number will be required to purchase this year's license. The license will be issued to the same licensee as the previous year. Although the license will be issued to the same licensee, the licensee's address may be updated. If location coordinates are incorrect or missing, they will be required before the license can be issued.

Effective July 1, 2013

In addition to creating the nonresident one day freshwater fishing license, the Board reduced the price of the one day Fee Fishing permits for Crooked Creek, Clinch Mountain, and Douthat State Park from $9.00 to $8.00.
