Starting July 1, 2010

  • Virginia and Tennessee have entered into a reciprocal fishing license agreement for South Holston Reservoir. Virginia residents no longer have to purchase a separate Tennessee non-resident fishing license to fish in the Tennessee portion of South Holston. Along with the new South Holston Reservoir Fishing license, Virginia residents will be required to have a valid Virginia fishing license and, if they intend to fish or harvest trout, a Virginia trout license. Virginia residents holding only a Virginia fishing license may still fish in the Virginia side of South Holston Reservoir.


  • Additional options are available for Hunters for the Hungry donations. Hunters and anglers can add $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, $75 or $100 to their license purchase. Other donation amounts can be made through the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries website at www.dgif.virginia.gov.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and the Virginia.gov are proud to offer you online hunting and fishing licenses. Purchase licenses online for yourself and for others and receive them via email.

Before you start

  • Only MasterCard and VISA accepted. MasterCard VISA
  • Licenses and Permits are not subject to exchange or return.
  • Your license will be emailed to you. You will be responsible for printing your license(s).
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view and print your license(s).
